SOUNDERS FC: Introducing Sounders FC columnist Greg Roth

Some of you might recognize the name Greg Roth. He keeps Sounders fanatics updated on the latest news over at SoundersInsider, where he has accumulated more than 800 followers.
Roth has a unique perspective on the newly minted Sounders FC squad, having grown up following the team since its early days in the North American Soccer League in the 1970’s.
To Continue…
Roth recounts the first Sounders match in the newly constructed Kingdome:
In 1976 a brand new indoor dome stadium opened in April and the first event would be a soccer match. The first event, The Seattle Sounder vs. The New York Cosmos, featuring the greatest player that ever played the game, the legendary Pele. My father and I took my brother John and I to the first match of the 1976 season on an April evening. I sat with 60,000 other people not to watch, baseball, not American Football but to watch soccer. My brother sat next to me and we marveled at the site of 60,000 fans watching professional soccer and our Sounders play.
Seattle Soccer Examiner David Faulk interviews Roth about SoundersInsider:
I really think the popularity of soccer here has grown because of a breed of fans that are hungry for information from around the world. The typical soccer fan is technically savvy and goes to the internet to get their information as opposed to paper. Fans like me get inside information and news before it breaks through the mainstream press by following fans on the message boards etc. At the same time, I love to get news and info. from credible mainstream news outlets to confirm rumors or things that I hear out on the Blogosphere.”
Look forward to Roth’s first column tomorrow night.
